Buying the Right Wireless Security Camera
While installing an outdoor wireless security camera system may be a snap, picking out the cameras you want to install many times isn’t. There is a lot of information to process and keep in mind. However, if you keep these simple things in mind before you buy a camera, you’ll end up with the best camera for your home every time.
First, know how far away your cameras and the receiver is going to be. You will need to find a camera that has a wireless distance of at least as far as the camera and the receiver will be apart. Keep in mind though that this number is for line of sight transmissions. If the wireless signal has to go through a wall or two, this will severely weaken it. If this is the case, make sure to buy an outdoor wireless security camera that has more transmission range than you will need.
Next, check what the light levels will be like in the areas where you will be placing the camera. Are they well lit or completely dark? This will determine the lux rating that you need to look for in your camera. The lux rating is the amount of light that a camera needs to function properly. It ranges from zero with cameras that have infrared technology built into them to much higher numbers for cameras not designed to be used at night.
Finally, when you’re buying your camera, look at it’s IP rating. This is an international number that determine how dust and water proof electronic devices are. The IP rating of any camera you use outside should be at least 65. This makes it dust proof and waterproof as long as it isn’t completely submerged in water.
Picking the right wireless security camera for your home doesn’t have to be difficult. Always remember to look at the camera’s lux and IP ratings and make sure that it has a wireless signal that will make it able to be used.
