When I first started out in the vending business, I thought that bigger bulk vending machines translated into more money. Plus I think that partially filled heads make a machine look neglected and may then further contribute to poor sales. I do have a few locations that can support a triple, but I’m moving towards doubles on the bulk of my route. I’m not getting rid of the triples yet, if I get a location that can sustain a triple I’ll put on in, but not a lot of my current locations can support it.

There are a few other things about double heads that make them ideal. Not only does it reduce waste, but they look nicer. I’m not sure if this translates into more sales, but it can’t be denied that machines with heads that display the candy 365 degrees look more appealing than my triples where the candy can only be seen from the front. Another thing that makes doubles ideal is that the removable heads can be made into singles, doubles, triples or even racks if you need. With my triples, I’m just stuck. It may seem on the surface that 200 locations with single heads may do better than 100 locations with double heads, but this just doesn’t pan out in real world testing. For some reason, an extra selection plus more floor “presence” seems to weigh in the favor of the doubles. Of course, in some cases a single head vending machine may be the choice for small locations.
